Jon Simerly, manager of Comfort Suites on 1801 S. 35th St., stands with the Cee Bee Ambassadors after cutting the ribbon, celebrating the hotel’s renovations and rebranding.

New carpets, paint, furniture and a new sign have comforted a 66-room hotel in Council Bluffs.

Comfort Suites on 1801 S. 35th St. completed its renovations and celebrated with a ribbon cutting Tuesday.

Renovations did not close the hotel over the six month period. The costs of renovations was nearly a half million dollars, although the rates haven’t changed much, manager Jon Simerly said.

“Before, you weren’t getting what you paid for. Our prices haven’t increased much after renovations. Now you’re getting a much better quality at a slightly higher price,” he said.

Renovations include new carpets and paint, tile and furniture. New AC units, 50” inch TVs and a pool have been installed, along with higher-speed internet and cable.

Comfort Suites attracts blue collar workers from various fields, corporate seminars in the slower months and leisure travelers in the spring and summer, Simerly said.

“The hotel was built about 20 years ago and it’s the second time it’s been renovated,” he said.

Implemented by parent company Choice Hotels, Simerly said Comfort Suites in Council Bluffs is the first hotel to display the brand changes.

“I’ve seen people come and take photos of our sign because it’s not very common yet,” he said. “We offer a good product at a reasonable price. Our customer service sets us aside from anywhere else.”
