Fireworks season is approaching.

With that comes the sale of fireworks in Council Bluffs from licensed shops beginning Saturday and temporary tents to join June 13.

Although fireworks sales end July 8, the city limits usage of fireworks from noon to 11 p.m. July 4-6.

The following locations are approved permanent structures for the sale of a limited quantity of fireworks:

  • Bomgaars — 2703 E. Kanesville Blvd.
  • Menards — 3200 Manawa Centre Drive
  • Sam’s Club — 3221 Manawa Centre Drive
  • Target — 3804 Metro Drive
  • Walmart — 3201 Manawa Centre Drive
  • Walmart — 1800 N. 16th St.
  • Wild Willy’s Fireworks — 2659 W. Broadway

New to Council Bluffs, Wild Willy’s Fireworks plans to open a brick and mortar fireworks store on Saturday.

Owner Dan Williams settled on buying former Billy’s Ice on 2659 W. Broadway and plans to keep the store vacant during off seasons, he said.

“Tents can’t hold as much as product as an indoor stand. There are a lot of people who enjoy going to an air conditioned stand with shopping carts,” Williams said. “And there are some people who like to buy early.”

Williams said his location on West Broadway is partnering with Thomas Jefferson High School Football and Dance teams to fundraise for the year. A portion of the proceeds would benefit the teams while the students and some staff work at the store.

The locations listed above are allowed 12 days of sales before tents open on June 13.

Council Bluffs and Sioux City are among the largest cities in the state to allow fireworks usage, and both have restrictions on the dates.

Des Moines and Cedar Rapids both banned fireworks. Most Des Moines suburbs won’t allow fireworks, although they are allowed on July 4 in Ankeny. Several cities around Cedar Rapids allow at least limited fireworks use.
