Bessie the cat.

Bessie is no cow, but she sure has one heck of a milk mustache.

Bessie is a 2-month-old domestic shorthair cat who is currently available for adoption at Midlands Humane Society. She was brought in as an owner surrender last week and she won’t stop talking about it. She is a very chatty kitten, offering up howling meows to anyone’s ear that she can bend. She is very energetic and loves exploring. She likes a nice view atop a human’s shoulders, so potential owners should be aware of her climbing skills. Her adoption fee is $120.

In other shelter news, Midlands is gearing up for this year’s Derby Gala fundraiser, “Diggin’ the Derby,” at the Mid-America Center. This year’s event will take place on May 10 and will feature dinner, live and silent auctions, an animal fashion show and more. Table sponsorship opportunities from $250 to $5,000 are currently available, and interested parties should contact Midlands’ Director of Development and Marketing Kori Nelson at 712-396-2264. General admission tickets are $55.

More information about fostering, volunteer and donation opportunities can be found at midlandshumanesociety.org or by calling 712-396-2270. Updates and other information can be found at the Midlands Humane Society’s Facebook page.
