John Reddish

As we recognize volunteers during Volunteer Appreciation Month, John Reddish comes from a different group of volunteers. He’s what we at the Jennie Edmundson Foundation lovingly call a “voluntold.”

That’s a family member who gets elected to take on a project for free, because it’s the right thing to do. John and his wife Lorrie, director of case management at Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital, were instrumental in coordinating an effort with Refuge Church in downtown Council Bluffs that assists families in need.

Much like the “little free libraries” you’ll find in some neighborhoods, John built and installed a “little free pantry” that has been placed outside of the Refuge Church at 634 Willow Ave. in downtown Council Bluffs.

Three times a week it is replenished with nonperishable food items for people in the neighborhood who have a need. In addition to the church, this endeavor is being supported by the Bayliss West Neighborhood, the Jennie Edmundson Foundation, and the Jennie Edmundson Auxiliary.

John and Lorrie have assisted with securing and stock piling pantry items for distribution. The need is great and donations are appreciated. If you’d like to volunteer to assist with this program, please contact Lorrie at the Refuge Church at 402-639-6090.
