Maddie Skinner

Maddie Skinner has lots of school spirit, and she’ll be taking it to college with her next fall.

Skinner, 18, is a Carter Lake native and a senior at St. Albert High School. She transferred to St. Albert Catholic Schools during the third grade and has been there ever since. Halfway through her final year at the school, Skinner looked back at her time there with fondness.

“I love it here,” she said. “I genuinely think there’s a great atmosphere and the people here are super, super friendly. They treat you like a family and the teachers are willing to spend the extra time to help you if need be. I really enjoy that.”

Since her freshman year, Skinner has livened up the sidelines at various Saintes and Falcons athletic events as a cheerleader. She says there’s a familial relationship with the other girls on the team and that she’s made many lasting relationships in the cheer world. The wrestling and basketball teams are reaching the peak points of the season and Skinner is keeping busy making it to every event.

Skinner will attend Iowa Western Community College next fall, and she plans on trying out for the Reiver cheerleading squad. She said she’s going to study science and later focus on psychology.

“There are many conversations about mental health these days, and I want to be able to help people,” she said. “I want to be able to reach a younger generation, to have them care about themselves more and see that they can reach out to people.”

With just a few more months of high school left in front of her, Skinner said she’s going to spend as much time as she can with her graduating class. She wants to make a few more memories before starting a new chapter in her life.
