John Dominguez

John Dominguez has been volunteering at CHI Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs for the past two and a half years. He works at the hospital’s welcome desk two days a week and the gift shop set up one day a week. Dominguez also volunteers at the used book sale once a month.

As a volunteer at the welcome desk, Dominguez greets patients and families. He assists patients with wheelchairs and helps transport patients to their appointments. He also helps deliver flowers and whatever else is needed. He is also helpful in providing way finding directions to patients and guests.

Dominguez said he started volunteering at Mercy after a friend, who is also a volunteer, thought it would be a good fit for him.

He said he enjoys volunteering at Mercy because he enjoys meeting people and helping people. Volunteer Services Manager Lisa Gronstal was quick to add, “(Dominguez) is a very personable person and has a friendly and outgoing personality. He always has a smile on his face.”

Dominguez said he enjoys helping set up for the big gift shop sales in the spring and at Christmas time. “I also enjoy helping with out other fundraisers such as the Hot Dog Day luncheon and Pie Day sale.

Dominguez operated JD’s Service & Repair for 20 years. He retired and then ran a route for a wholesale florist company for 11 years before his second retirement. He is married to Karen Dominquez and has two daughters.
