Christine Melton

Christine Melton has been volunteering for the past seven years at CHI Health Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs. In addition to her volunteer activities in the hospital’s gift shop, she is a member of the Mercy Guild.

Melton helps in the gift shop as a clerk every Monday morning. She also helps with unpacking and pricing inventory for the gift shop.

Melton is very “crafty” and an excellent seamstress. She currently sells home-made items in the gift shop in an area that’s called “Christine’s Corner.” She makes hand-made items that are specifically designed to provide sensory and tactile stimulation for restless hands. She also makes beautiful walker bags and adult bibs.

Melton said she got started in volunteering at Mercy after seeing other volunteers during a visit to the hospital.

“It gets me out and about,” she said. “I’ve met a lot of nice people.”

Melton has served as secretary of the Mercy Guild and enjoys working on special sales for the gift shop and Guild fundraisers.

Melton worked at PayFlex for more than 10 years before retiring and coming to volunteer at Mercy. She is originally from England and has been in the USA for 23 years.
