Rachel Bergman

Rachel Bergman has a lot of outdoor summer fun ahead of her, but she spent yesterday afternoon cooling off and relaxing at the Council Bluffs Public Library.

Rachel, 11, was born in Missouri, but her family moved to Council Bluffs when she was 1. She’s part of a soon-to-be 13-sibling family when her little brother is born. She said his name is going to be Drexten. Rachel is a homeschooled student with Iowa Connections Academy, and she’ll be starting her middle school years as a sixth-grader in the fall.

Rachel’s age and grade level just earned her access to one of her new favorite summer and after school hangout spots, Teen Central at the Council Bluffs Public Library. She said she’s been coming up to Teen Central, the second-floor oasis for middle and high school students, for a couple of weeks now. She said she enjoys being able to spend some quiet time by herself or being able to socialize with friends, play on a computer or take part in the library’s free programming.

While she enjoys her time at Teen Central, Rachel said she is ready to have some fun in the sun this summer. She said she loves hitting the sand at the Lake Manawa State Park beach with friends. She is also taking a trip to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, this weekend to take part in a family reunion. Rachel said she will be meeting dozens, if not hundreds, of relatives from across the country and Europe she has never met before. She said it’s going to be a lot to take in, but it will be nice to make new connections with her extended family.

Rachel is ready to make fond memories and have some good times this summer.
