Tyson Watts is flipping out over his birthday.
Watts, who turned 14 today, is a Council Bluffs native. Yesterday afternoon, the former 13-year-old beat the heat with his friends during a trip to Pirate Cove Water Park. He said the pool is a frequent summer destination for him and his pals.
Watts is quite acrobatic, and he has been since he was 6. He said his dad taught him how to do a flip while standing still and he hasn’t stopped twisting through the air since. He spent lots of time on the Pirate Cove diving board yesterday, performing several different flips into the water. He said his favorite move is the double back flip, and he’s working on perfecting the triple.
Watts spent his last day as a middle school student Wednesday, just next door at Wilson Middle School. He said he’s glad to be on summer break and is looking ahead to high school at Thomas Jefferson High School next fall. He is an avid football player who plays several positions and is ready to compete at the next level for the Yellowjackets.
Aside from soaking the summer away at the pool, Watts said he is planning on family trips, cookouts and the like. He said his family will be heading to Des Moines soon to visit Adventureland Park for his birthday. Until then, look to the skies to see him flipping and spinning.
