Annabelle Hawkins is enjoying the last few days of school before her summer adventures begin.
Hawkins, 11, is a fifth-grader at Heartland Christian School. She’s been at the school since her third-grade year. Looking back at the past few years, she said she is glad to be a part of the Heartland family. She said she is grateful for the kind, welcoming community.
“It’s been really good,” she said. “I like that there a lot of nice kids. And teachers, too.”
Hawkins said she has enjoyed meeting new people and making new friends at Heartland. She said she likes most of her classes, but she really loves getting her heart pumping during physical education. Her favorite gym activity is playing trackball, a sort of twist on the traditional dodgeball game.
Now that the warm weather appears to be sticking around, Hawkins is excited for the school year to wrap up next week so she can spend even more time outdoors. She said she’ll be doing plenty of traditional summer things like hanging out with friends and going on family trips. She’ll also be spending some time with her mom at Camp of the Good Shepherd, a Christian summer camp in Louisville, Nebraska. Her mom cooks for the camp and Hawkins will be helping her out.
Hawkins has had a good school year, but now she’s ready for some summer fun.
