Braxton Plunkett, 2, left, and his cousin, Cali Plunkett, 1, give each other a hug at Roberts Park before the start of Wings of Hope Cancer Support Center’s annual Journey of Hope Walk on Saturday, Sept. 28, 2019. The two were walking to support their grandma, Sandra Plunkett, who is currently battling cancer. The three-mile walk runs from Roberts Park to Big Lake Park and back, and it raises money for Wings of Hope, which provides free services and support for cancer patients and their caregivers. The walk was held in memory of Richard Martinez, a Rue Elementary School paraeducator who passed away four years ago after battling prostate cancer. This year’s walk was held on his birthday, and he would have been 57. More information about the organization and its services can be found at wingsofhope.org. More than 75 people participated in the walk this year.
