The Salvation Army Council Bluffs Tree of Lights campaign brightened the tree above the American National Bank at 1600 W. Broadway Friday night. Major Donna Miller said the tree represents the Christmas effort in the area, with a goal of raising $200,000 for the season; half of it is raised through the kettle campaign, but 100% of it goes to Council Bluffs. "Without the money being raised, it directly affects how many services we can provide to Council Bluffs and Pottawattamie County,” she said. "Seasonal giving. The bells started ringing today and the bells will ring until Dec. 24 at 6 p.m. That's how long we have to raise this money." This year, donations can also be given through Apple Pay.
