Josh McCoy is led out of the Riverbend Apartments on Thursday afternoon after being apprehended by police. Authorities said he barricaded himself inside the apartment and refused to cooperate.

An Omaha man with arrest warrants in Nebraska barricaded himself inside a unit at the Riverbend Apartments in Council Bluffs Thursday, according to authorities.

Joshua McCoy, 27, was arrested for violating a no contact order, burglary and interference with official acts. He has a warrant out of Douglas County, Nebraska, for absconding from post-release supervision and not reporting to probation since Oct. 5, 2018, following a domestic assault conviction.

Council Bluffs Police Lt. Darren Budd said officers were dispatched to the apartment at 805 N. 35th St. for reports of a man making threats to kill someone.

McCoy refused to let officers in, so police forced the door and found McCoy wielding a hammer “in a threatening way,” Budd said.

“A less-lethal 12-gauge shotgun was used, he was hit once and surrendered peacefully afterwards,” Budd said.

Budd said the gun used bean bag rounds.

McCoy was treated by medical personnel at the scene before being taken into custody.
