The Council Bluffs Police Department is investigating after a man's body was found in the Missouri River on Sunday evening.

After a report of a possible body in the river was called into Omaha and Pottawattamie County authorities at 5:23 p.m., the Council Bluffs Fire Department recovered a body from the water about three-quarters of a mile south of Iowa Highway 92 at 5:48 p.m. Police brought the body to a nearby parking lot on the riverfront for an investigation.

The man was estimated to be between 35 and 40 years old. Police said the man had a tattoo on his right forearm and was found wearing only blue jeans and a black belt.

Identification is pending an autopsy with the Iowa State Medical Examiner's Office in Ankeny.
