A 90-year-old Council Bluffs woman was pronounced dead Sunday morning, shortly after she was involved in a single-car accident.
At roughly 7:45 a.m. Sunday, Council Bluffs police officers were called to the scene of an accident near South Seventh Street and Willow Avenue. Investigators believe Ardeth Paulson was driving southbound on South Seventh Street when her 2000 Pontiac Grand Am left the road and crashed into a sign post just north of Willow Avenue.
Family members said she was heading to St. John Lutheran Church when the accident took place, according to her obituary.
According to police, Council Bluffs paramedics initiated CPR and rushed Paulson to Methodist Jennie Edmundson Hospital. Efforts to revive Paulson at the hospital were unsuccessful, and she was pronounced dead at 8:30 a.m.
The accident remains under investigation by police. Investigators say, at this time, the possibility that Paulson suffered from a medical emergency while driving is not being ruled out as a possible cause.
Most of her life, according to the obituary, Paulson operated Paulson Heavy Equipment. Later in life, she participated in numerous church activities and led the sewing group at The Center.
Funeral services will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. John Lutheran Church.
