Cory Woodward during part of the national Cop on a Rooftop campaign at the West Broadway Dunkin’ Donuts on Friday, Sept. 6, 2019. Council Bluffs police officers were on hand to collect donations for Special Olympics Iowa during the event, which raised around $30,000 statewide last year, according to Council Bluffs Police Sgt. Ron Albers. With more than 14,000 Special Olympics athletes in Iowa alone, Albers said the police departments across the state are always trying to find new ways to raise money for the organization. “There are a lot of great people, and we’re always just trying to do whatever we can for these athletes,’ Albers said.
