An 85-year-old Red Oak woman was arrested on assault charges Wednesday for allegedly hitting and spitting on a post office worker.

Lois Nelson was taken into custody at 10 a.m. Wednesday on suspicion of assault.

According to Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Todd Dollen, employees at the U.S. Post Office in Red Oak accused Nelson of shoplifting. As an employee tried to recover the undisclosed item, Nelson allegedly hit the victim in the shoulder and spit on his face.

She was taken into custody and charged with misdemeanor assault. She posted $300 bond and was released from Montgomery County Jail.

According to online court records, Nelson pleaded guilty to simple misdemeanor assault stemming from a 2015 incident and was fined $65. She was also convicted on shoplifting charges in both 2012 and 2013.
