Leo James McEntee, Jr.
Leo James McEntee, Jr., age 85, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2019, surrounded by his family.
Jim was born in Omaha, Neb.; on August 9, 1933, to Leo James and Amelia (Brunner) McEntee. He attended Sacred Heart Catholic School and North High School where he lettered in varsity wrestling and swimming. After high school he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1951 to 1954 aboard the U.S. Pittsburgh during the Korean War. Upon discharge from the Navy, he attended Universal Trade School completing a 26 month course for Refrigeration, Heating and Air Conditioning. He began working at this trade while going to school. Jim worked for Omaha Public Power District in Building Maintenance as a licensed 2nd Grade Stationary Engineer. After 33 years of service with OPPD he retired in 1992 at the age of 59.
He met the love of his life Viola "JoAnn" Bell and on October 5, 1955 they were married. Their union produced 3 girls. They were married 39 years before their life together was cut short by JoAnn's premature death of lung cancer at the age of 57.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jean; and his beloved wife, JoAnn.
He is survived by his 3 daughters, Pam (Jim) Friesen, Penny (Kevin) Richardson, and Patty Pike; 4 grandchildren, Jaimee (Jake) Rogers, Zachary (Abby) Pike, Mackenzie (Brandon) Lorenzen, James McEntee; 3 great-grandchildren, Logan, Maverick and Sophia.
Visitation with the family, Monday, 6 to 8 p.m. Funeral services, Tuesday, 10:30 a.m., all at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Jim will be laid to rest with his wife, JoAnn in St. Joseph Cemetery followed by military rites by the American Legion Post 2. Luncheon will follow at the Walnut Hill Reception Center. Memorials will be directed by the family.
