Dr. Robert R. "Bob" Butler, PhD
Dr. Robert R. "Bob" Butler, PhD, age 87, of Council Bluffs, passed away, at his home, on May 6, 2019.
Bob was born October 23, 1931, in Council Bluffs, to the late Harley M. and Mary F. (Regnault) Butler. He graduated from Missouri Valley, Iowa, High School in 1949 and proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. Bob married Caroline M. Brown on October 2, 1954, in Council Bluffs. They were blessed with three children: Bob, Steven and Dana. Bob earned his Bachelor of Science in Education in 1962, Master of Science in Counseling in 1963, at the University of Omaha, and his PhD in Counseling and Psychology from the University of Missouri, in Columbia in 1970. He retired in 2000 after 31 years teaching at UNO in Counselor Education and also served as Chairman of the department during part of his tenure. After his retirement, Bob contracted with the USAF and conducted Human Communication workshops for officers for many years. Bob was a lifelong member of the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints now referred to as Community of Christ. He served as High Priest.
In addition to his parents, Bob was preceded in death by his son, Steven Butler in 2018; and 2 siblings.
Bob is survived by his wife of 64 years, Caroline Butler, of Council Bluffs; son, Bob (Kim) Butler, of Brock, Neb.; daughter, Dana (Gary) Harvey, of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Kyle Harvey, Nathan Butler, Daniel Harvey, Laurel Zentner, Grahm Butler; great-grandchildren, Rye Stickney, Paige Stickney, Lila Harvey, Wesley and Levi Zentner, John Butler; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Layne and Marian Brown, of Palisade, Colo.; nieces and nephews.
Celebration of Life service, Saturday, 11 a.m., at Riverside Community of Christ, 2828 Ave. G. Military rites will be tendered by the Kanesville Honor Guard. A lunch will immediately follow in the church hall. The family will direct memorial contributions.
