Master Gardeners leave their green thumbprints all over Council Bluffs

The Mick Ryan Memorial Garden at Westfair was one of the projects taken on by West Pottawattamie Master Gardeners in 2017.

The keynote speaker for the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach — West Pottawattamie County Master Gardener Spring Garden Conference will be Kim Todd of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.

The conference will be held March 30, at the Holiday Inn and Suites at Ameristar Casino, located at 2000 River Road in Council Bluffs.

Todd is the associate professor and extension landscape specialist at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Agronomy and Horticulture. She is also the host of “Backyard Farmer,” the popular gardening and landscape show that can be seen on Nebraska Public Television.

Todd will also host a breakout session titled “Incredible Edibles for Sustenance and Sustainability” where she will lecture on small spaces, tight places along with adding woody trees, shrubs and vines to the landscape.

Twelve different workshops will be offered by gardening experts from both Iowa and Nebraska. Attendees will choose five of the twelve options.

Check-in begins at 8 a.m. and the event will run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:20 p.m. The cost is $35 if registered by March 22 or $45 the day of the event. The registration cost includes admission to the all-day event including continental breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
