A Harlan man was pronounced dead after a rollover crash just east of Harlan Tuesday afternoon.

The Shelby County Sheriff's Office reported the rollover occurred around 4 p.m. on Nishna Avenue in Shelby County. First responders to the scene found a 1994 International semi-trailer had left the road  for unknown reasons  and rolled into the south ditch.

The driver, Dale Hemminger, 71, of Harlan, had to be extricated from the vehicle using mechanical means, reports stated. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash is under investigation. The Shelby County Sheriff's Office was assisted on scene by the Harlan Police Department, Harlan Fire Department, Medivac Ambulance, Kirkman Fire Department, Westphalia Fire Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Motor Vehicle Enforcement and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources.
