Virginia L. Nelson

 

Virginia L. Nelson, age 90, of Council Bluffs, passed away peacefully at her home, on May 29, 2019.

Virginia was born June 6, 1928, in Council Bluffs to the late Moroni and Geneva (Wilford) Danielsen. She graduated from Abraham Lincoln High School in 1946. On July 25, 1948, Virginia married Vernon Nelson. They became soul mates and life partners for the next 60 years. In 1952, Virginia began her working career at Omaha National Bank as a teller and through hard work and dedication, she worked her way up, to officer of the bank and retired as vice-president of the Estate and Trust divisions 35 years later. Virginia was a member of New Horizon Presbyterian Church; very active in many organizations such as the Womens All-American Baseball League, Toast Masters, Life member of the Grand Chapter Order of Eastern Star, Chapter 441. Altrusa International, Am'ers Circle at New Horizon Presbyterian Church, and a 10 year Gift Shop Volunteer at Jennie Edmundson Memorial Hospital.

In addition to her parents, Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Nelson on June 15, 2008; and her brother, Lloyd Danielsen on December 7, 2018.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Kay (Saul) Nelson-Hidalgo; son, Todd (Amy) Nelson, all of Council Bluffs; grandchildren, Heather Larson, Jahren Nelson, Nathan Nelson-Place, John Hidalgo and Liz Hidalgo; 2 great-grandchildren, Jessica Larson and Evelyn Suntrup; sister, Mary (Chris) Sternberg, of Carson, Iowa; brother, Dr. Albert (Eleanor) Danielsen, of No. Myrtle Beach, S.C.; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation with the family, Sunday, 2 to 5 p.m., at Cutler-O'Neill-Meyer-Woodring Bayliss Park Chapel. Funeral service, Monday, 11 a.m., at New Horizon Presbyterian Church. Interment, Memorial Park Cemetery with a lunch following, at the church. Memorials are suggested to the Altrusa Educational Fund or New Horizon Presbyterian Ch-urch.
