The Board of Directors of the Council Bluffs Area Chamber of Commerce made a wise choice in its selection of former Council Bluffs Mayor Tom Hanafan to serve as interim president and chief executive officer beginning July 1.
Hanafan, who served as mayor for 25 years before serving as a Pottawattamie County supervisor, will lead the chamber as the board focuses on finding a permanent replacement for Dan Koenig, who left the chamber to pursue other opportunities.
Hanafan is a lifelong resident of Council Bluffs and a man who has been recognized by countless community organizations for his contributions to the city.
In making the announcement, Don Kohler, chairman of the chamber’s board of Directors, noted that the chamber is at a “pivotal transition period, and the board wanted to find an interim leader who could provide some stability to our organization and continue to serve and support the business community of Council Bluffs; Tom Hanafan was an easy choice to fill that leadership role.”
We agree. Hanafan’s obvious interest in the betterment of the city and area he has served so long and the range of his contacts throughout the city, the metropolitan area and beyond will be beneficial to the chamber’s continued success during and after the search for a new president and CEO.
