A ‘thank you’ to the people of Council Bluffs

I am writing to thank Council Bluffs residents for sharing the true meaning of Christmas with children in need this past holiday season.

Because of the generosity of donors in Council Bluffs and across the United States, Operation Christmas Child, a project of Samaritan’s Purse, collected more than 8.8 million shoe boxes in 2018. Combined with those collected from partnering countries in 2018, the ministry is now sending more than 10.6 million shoe box gifts to children suffering from poverty, natural disasters, war, disease and famine.

These simple gifts bring smiles to the faces of children around the world. Packed with fun toys, school supplies and hygiene items, these gifts bring joy and are a tangible expression of God’s love. Since 1993, Operation Christmas Child has collected and delivered more than 157 million gift-filled shoe boxes to children in more than 160 countries and territories.

It’s not too late for people to make a difference. Though drop-off locations serving Council Bluffs shoe box packers are closed until November 2019, anyone can still pack a personalized shoe box gift online at samaritanspurse.org/buildonline. Information about year-round volunteer opportunities can also be found at samaritanspurse.org/volunteerwithOCC.

Thank you again to everyone who participated in this global project — many who do so year after year. These simple gifts send a message to children worldwide that they are loved and not forgotten.

Parameters of morality

Nancy Pelosi considers a Southern border wall immoral. A Southern wall would help redirect “caravan asylum seekers” to U.S. ports of entry. Crowd control via serpentine lines, narrowing corridors at airports, sports centers and entertainment venues are never questioned.

Why is it immoral to expect a proper identifying document to vote while not judged to be a problem when banking, purchasing on credit or renting a hotel room? We are led to believe, by the self appointed morality arbiters, that it is okay to terminate a pregnancy clear up through nine months of gestation.

At the same time they find it highly immoral to execute prisoners found guilty of murder? Such lunacy is being used by the progressives left, supported by the Democrats, to garner support and votes from their malleable sycophants. The Democrat’s morality parameters are corrosive and dangerous. This faux morality should be recognized, exposed and summarily rejected in order sustain a law abiding system of justice instead of a doctrine of so-called “social justice.”

Mueller investigation not partisan, despite cries from opponents

The Mueller investigation has been falsely accused of rank partisanship and bias. It’s been called a “witch hunt.” The arrest of Roger Stone last Friday proves it isn’t.

Stone, just like every other American, will have a chance to defend himself in court, and he will be legally innocent until he admits guilt or a jury of his peers finds him guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. But even before a trial, the indictment is clearly not a partisan document.

Robert Mueller, a life-long Republican, brought charges before a grand jury against Stone, also a Republican, for lying to a Republican-controlled Congressional committee.

Clearly, the dispute isn’t about partisanship. It’s about the rule of law, and whether or not the law applies equally to everyone. Republicans have long believed that it should.

It’s good to see it still does.
