Rumor is the scoreboard at Gale Wickersham Stadium doesn’t go to 100.

Thomas Jefferson had a chance to prove it after Cameron Baker’s eighth touchdown got the Yellow Jackets 99 points with the extra point still to come.

But T.J. coach Brant Anderson decided to leave it right there, ordering his team to take a knee on the conversion attempt, as the Yellow Jackets outlasted the Stars 99-81.

“I just felt that football’s not a sport where you’re supposed to score 100 points,” Anderson said.

“We just weren’t going to do it. I couldn’t have stopped us if we had to run a couple more offensive plays. At that point there I was like, ‘Nah. We’re not getting 100’,” he added.

Baker’s eight touchdowns came on 34 carries as he piled up 371 rushing yards.

The senior, who said he will be attending the Nebraska-Akron game Saturday, credited his offense for creating holes. He said much of the time he was untouched.

“It was probably one of the craziest games I’ve been a part of,” Baker said.

Despite the win, Anderson wasn’t happy that his defense allowed 81 points.

“I just wish we could have made more plays on defense. We made that too easy. We tackled really poorly.

“You look at that, and I don’t know whether to be happy or sad. It’s nice to get a win. Scoring 99 points is unreal. But giving up 81 points is probably worse,” Anderson said.

Jermaine Green rushed 12 times for 199 yards, and quarterback Cameron Lukavsky added 169 rushing yards on 19 attempts as the Yellow Jackets outgained the Stars 745-280 on the ground.

North quarterback Matt Hagan was just as spectacular. He completed 11 of 22 passes for 309 yards and eight touchdowns.

The Yellow Jackets (1-1) scored on their first drive of the game after recovering an onside kick to start the game.

Seneca Calhoun capped the drive with a 2-yard touchdown run, and Baker ran in the conversion to put T.J. up 8-0.

After Devonta Cobbs fumbled on the Stars’ first play from scrimmage, the Yellow Jackets drove it 56 yards, and a 3-yard Baker plunge gave T.J. a 16-0 lead with 4:42 left in the first quarter.

After another Baker touchdown run in the first quarter gave the Yellow Jackets a 22-0 advantage, the Stars finally answered at the end of the period with a 13-yard touchdown pass from Hagan to Cale Conner to cut the lead to 22-7.

But the Yellow Jackets’ Jermaine Green ripped off a 68-yard run for a score on T.J.’s first possession of the second quarter to put his team up 29-7 with 10:22 left in the first half.

Thomas Jefferson led 57-21 at halftime after outgaining North 444-102. The Jackets outrushed the Stars 384-69 with Baker totaling 181 yards on 18 carries and Green getting 132 yards on seven attempts.

Baker capped Jefferson’s opening drive of the second half with a 42-yard touchdown run to give him five on the night and make it 63-21.

But three straight North touchdowns got the Stars (1-1) to within 63-43 with 6:41 remaining in the third.

Thomas Jefferson led 78-49 heading to the fourth quarter.
