TREYNOR – Class 2-A No. 3 Treynor pushed its record to 9-0 with a 4-0 non-conference prep baseball win over Cherokee on Tuesday.
Jaxon Schumacher, an eighth-grader, worked six innings to earn the win. He gave up two hits and no walks while striking out two. Brenden Dingus finished by pitching the seventh inning. He gave up a hit and struck out one.
Kyle Christensen had two hits and drove in two runs for the Cardinals. Drew Petersen hit a pair of doubles, and Schumacher singled and doubled.
St. Albert 10, Carroll Kuemper 0, 6 inn.
Ethan Bernard threw a one-hitter as Class 1-A No. 6 St. Albert took care of 2-A Kuemper.
“We played well,” Falcons coach Duncan Patterson said. “It’s easy when your pitcher pounds the (strike) zone all night long.”
Bernard also went 2 for 4 with three RBIs for the Falcons. Isaac Sherrill was 3 for 4 with two doubles and three RBIs.

Lewis Central 10, Denison-Schleswig 1
DENISON – Jake Powell and Easton Dermody combined to pitch a two-hitter for the Titans. Powell got the win for five innings of work.
He gave up the run and the two hits but struck out six and walked two. Dermody closed with a flourish, pitching two hitless innings with three strikeouts.
The Titans broke the game open early with a seven-run second inning. Drake Nettles’ bases-loaded triple was the big blow in the frame. Nettles later added a solo home run.
Dermody had two hits, including a solo home run.
The Titans, 4-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference, hope to host Missouri Valley on Wednesday for their first home game of the season.

Sioux City Heelan 12-8, Thomas Jefferson 2-6
SIOUX CITY – Sioux City Heelan topped Thomas Jefferson twice, 12-2 in five innings and 8-6 in Missouri River Conference prep baseball games played at Briar Cliff University Tuesday.
In the second game, Ryan Steinspring and Nate Newton had two hits each. Tucker Rowe was three-for-four with a pair of doubles.
Denison-Schleswig 9, Lewis Central 2
DENISON – Class 4-A No. 6 Denison-Schleswig improved to 9-1 behind the pitching of senior Sarah Heilesen.
“They are that good,” said Lewis Central coach Don Wittstruck. “We are so young, but the girls are working and coming along. I was pleased with the pitching we got out of (freshman) Megan Gittins and Presley Rodenburg.”
Sioux City Heelan 7, Thomas Jefferson 1
SIOUX CITY – Sioux City Heelan topped Thomas Jefferson 7-1 in a Missouri River Conference prep softball game Tuesday.
Caitlyn Jones and Shaeley Bose had the Yellow Jackets’ hits.
Freshman Alyssa Denman pitched for T.J. Errors hurt the Jackets, as only three of the seven Heelan runs were earned.
Carroll Kuemper 16, St. Albert 7
Carroll Kuemper defeated St. Albert 16-7 in a Hawkeye Ten Conference prep softball game Tuesday at St. Albert.
“We are young and in a learning process,” said St. Albert Coach Lyndsay Daley. “We will make an error, and that seems to open the door to a big hit by them.”
Lainey Sheffield was 2-for-2 for the Saintes with a double and four RBIs, and Allie Petry had a double.
Tri-Center 2, Logan-Magnolia 1
Kaleb Smith threw a complete game four-hitter to pick up the win for the Trojans.
Lo-Ma’s Tre Melby hit a home run and threw 5 2/3 innings.
After Melby homered in the third, Tri-Center came back to score two in the bottom of the inning. Brett McGee’s RBI double drove in the go-ahead run.
