NEOLA – St. Albert’s Ellerie Tarbox scored two goals in the first 10 minutes of the second half Friday as the Saintes defeated Tri-Center 3-1 in a Class 1-A, Region 2 girls soccer semifinal.

The Saintes advance to Monday’s Region 2 championship match at Treynor at 6 p.m.

“We looked pretty good,” St. Albert coach Chris Hughes said. “We controlled the ball and everyone played well.”

The teams played to a 1-1 tie at halftime. Makenna Shepard scored for the Saintes off a feed from Maddie Estell.

“Tri-Center got quite a goal on a 35-yard direct kick” by Miranda Ring, Hughes said. “I have to give them credit. Their goalie played an outstanding match.”

Hughes said that after a halftime talk, the Saintes put on more pressure in the second half.

Jordyn Blaha and Shepard had the assists on Tarbox’s goals.

Treynor 5, Harlan 0

TREYNOR – Rylie Jacobsen scored twice and had an assist as Treynor took the Class 1-A, Region 2 semifinal.

Livia White had a goal and two assists, and Rachel Kinsella had a goal and an assist. Rachael Phelps scored the other goal.

Callie Copperstone needed to make only three saves in the nets to finish off the shutout.

Treynor enters Monday’s match against St. Albert on a 10-match win streak.


Red Oak 11, Thomas Jefferson 6, 9 inn.

Red Oak topped Thomas Jefferson 11-6 in nine innings in the Yellow Jackets prep softball opener Friday at Fatovich Fields.

Alyssa Denman and Taylor Thallas had three hits each to pace the Thomas Jefferson attack. Caitlyn Jones added a hit and pitched four innings, allowing no earned runs.

Lewis Central 11, Abraham Lincoln 2

L.C.’s Haley Bach tripled twice, doubled and drove in three runs to pace the Titans to the nonconference win at Fatovich Fields.

“We got in some practice after last weekend and put the ball in play,” L.C. coach Don Wittstruck said.

Presley Rodenburg had three hits and Jerika Koopmeiners had two hits and drove in a run.


Lewis Central 12, Clarinda 0, 5 inn.

CLARINDA – Drake Nettles and Easton Dermody combined on a two-hit shutout for L.C.

Nettles pitched the first four innings, gave up the two hits but struck out seven. Dermody closed by working the fifth inning, striking out two.

Jordan Wardlow hit a solo home run; Bryson Sharon doubled and Alex Watson went two-for-two for the Titans.

Late Thursday

Harlan softball 12, Creston 2, 5 inn.

HARLAN – Morgan Schaben pitched a complete-game one-hitter for Harlan.

Schaben gave up no earned runs. She struck out six and walked two,

Emily Brouse had two hits and drove in three runs for Harlan. Kate Heithoff doubled, had two RBIs and scored three runs. Miranda Goetz had two RBIs. Tianna Kasperbauer scored twice as did Aurora Miller and Madison Kjergaard.
