Five youth baseball teams gathered Saturday at Bahnsen Park to play some games for a serious cause.

The teams took part in the annual Blake Smith Memorial Tournament, which started Saturday afternoon and will end Sunday.

Blake, a Kirn Middle School sixth-grader, died at age 11 in a Council Bluffs vehicle-pedestrian accident in November 2016.

Five teams with players ages 10 to 14 participated in the tournament, with proceeds to go to the Red Cross Foundation for flood relief, said Ashley Billings of Council Bluffs, who with her husband Jerry organized the event.

The tournament raised between $3,000 and $4,000 last year, with the money going to the Smith family.

The teams played three games Saturday. Two more and a home run derby are scheduled for Sunday.
